The “Real Apprentice” – A Graduate Programme Like No Other!

By Andy Fay • Tuesday 31st May 2016

GraduateKite is pleased to announce that it is launching its second formal Graduate Development Programme this year, targeted at graduates who want to “aim high” and develop a successful career in Kite’s business.

The 2016 programme will commence in August 2016 and Kite is actively seeking talented Graduates to participate in what will be an amazing experience designed to fast-track successful participants into senior management positions within the company.

Kite is the leading UK packaging distributor, specialising in the supply of packaging and packaging solutions to companies across the UK.  The company was started from scratch in 2001 and as the faster growing player; it is now No 2 in the market.

Kite as grown to £50mil and operates from 8 locations throughout the UK.  The company is built upon strong value ethics and therefore has its own Code of Conduct as well as a sense of social responsibility.

Kite is also unusual in that it is 100% employee-owned, with over 90% of the employees being shareholders in the business which means they participate in Kite’s ‘wealth creation’.  Kite’s employee-ownership also provides a unique environment in which to work, where employees across the business support one-another due to our common goal.  This is coupled with Kite’s fun and entrepreneurial culture, working with some of the best people in the industry.

Outline of Programme

Kite’s programme is unlike many ‘blue chip’ graduate schemes in that it is not run by an HR department; it is the Kite’s Chairman’s ‘baby’, which means that participants will interface at a very senior level within Kite.

The programme is designed to give the participants experience across Kite’s operations and therefore graduates will be required to work at different locations on 4 monthly modules, across a 2 year period.

The requirement to move locations for each module are an important feature of the Graduate Development Programme.  Graduates should therefore not consider this opportunity if they are geographically constrained through personal circumstances or any other reason.

The programme is designed to make graduates successful, however, a permanent position within Kite is not guaranteed and participants will need to prove themselves in order to be secure a permanent position.

What will graduates be expected to deliver?

Kite is looking for hard working, talented entrepreneurs, who will participate enthusiastically with a willingness to try anything and do anything!

Graduates during the programme must work really hard to make a good impression at each module, as one of the modules could be the place that offers a future permanent employment position.

Graduates will be given responsibility and accountability for tasks and projects they are set and they will be expected to deliver on these to a very high standard.

In return Kite will provide support and training throughout the programme and at most modules graduates will report to a Kite Managing Partner and, if not, the Managing Partner at the location will act as the Graduate’s mentor for that module.
