The KES Compliance Scheme
Kite Environmental Solutions, (KES) was developed to help Companies meet their obligations under the Regulations. In so doing Kite has designed a Compliance Scheme which is distinctly different to any other scheme at present. The motivation of the KES Scheme is not only to provide its Members with help and ensure that they are compliant, but also to assess the ways in which their obligation may be reduced.
The KES Difference
KES differentiates itself from other schemes in two main ways.
Firstly, KES as a division of the Kite Packaging Group approaches the Regulations from a packaging perspective, whereas most of the other schemes currently operate through companies who manage waste. This means that KES, in partnership with Kite Packaging, may be able to influence your obligation through our expertise in packaging design, supply and knowledge of the Regulations.
Secondly, KES appreciates that the Regulations are complex, confusing and that their application to specific businesses is difficult. To solve this problem KES provides one-to-one consultancy for its Members in the form of two ½ day sessions which is included as part of the annual membership fee.
One-to-One Help
KES believes that the only way to fully understand a business and to ensure it is compliant with the Regulations is to spend time on site with the Scheme Member. The general consultancy sessions are designed to guide your business through the pit-falls of compliance and in doing this inform you of how the Regulations affect your business.
The first session is designed to
• help you understand the Regulations
• advise you on your commitments under law and explain how the Regulations affect you
• identify the operational flows within your business and from this determine the main activities you perform
• determine how you will source the data and what assumptions you can make in order to meet the requirement of being as ‘accurate as reasonably possible’
During the second session most of the time will be spent streamlining the data and aligning it to the activities that your company performs as an obligated producer. This information is then used to produce the data submission for your business.
Should you need any further assistance over and above that provided KES is happy to offer additional consultancy, but this is generally only required for multiple site companies.
Evidence of Compliance
As a Member of our Compliance Scheme, KES will adopt your obligation under the Regulations and as part of this service KES will liaise with the Environment Agency with respect to Registration, Data Returns and Agency audits.
As a Scheme KES takes on your responsibility to acquire PRNs. Having established your obligation KES will then purchase PRN’s on your behalf as evidence that you have recycled and recovered the necessary packaging waste in accordance with the Regulations.
Combining Support
In addition, if you are a Kite Packaging customer, KES will automatically generate all the information for the packaging that you have purchased from Kite Packaging during any given obligation year. Companies for whom Kite is their sole supplier usually find that as a result there is less work involved in the data collection process, reducing the time and cost to your business.
More than Just Value for Money
KES is designed to support the core business of Kite Packaging and as such it is structured to cover its own costs but by utilising the existing overhead structure of the Kite Packaging Group, KES is able to offer both competitive pricing and help that surpasses anything currently available through other compliance schemes.
In short KES provides a significantly better service without the additional cost.
