Polystyrene boxes

Insulated polystyrene boxes for transporting food, pharmaceuticals and temperature-sensitive goods. Also known as Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) packaging, this material is often used to protect appliances, electronics, medical equipment and even makes for great building insulation.

At Kite Packaging, we supply standard and premium EPS boxes.

Our range includes:

  • Standard boxes with 20mm wall thickness
  • Premium boxes with 60mm wall thickness
  • Single wall outer boxes

This gives you the flexibility to choose the right level of insulation for your needs. Our thicker premium option offers enhanced temperature control for longer deliveries or highly sensitive products. Used with gel packs, they meet +2 to +8 Celsius degree shipments.

Why choose polystyrene boxes?

  • Insulative properties maintain a stable temperature
  • Shock absorption
  • Moisture resistant, preventing humidity damage and fungal/bacterial growth
  • Lightweight material keeps shipping costs low
  • 100% recyclable
  • CFC free
  • Cost effective

What is EPS packaging?

EPS is sometimes referred to as polystyrene or EPS foam. Though it is similar to extruded polythene (XPS), EPS is made by an extrusion process that expands polystyrene beads into a lightweight, rigid structure. The process uses heat and steam to do so. This creates a closed-cell structure that has excellent insulation properties and compressive strength while remaining easy to handle and recycle. EPS packaging is 98% air and 2% plastic.

Is EPS the same as polystyrene?

EPS foam is a type of polystyrene. Think of polystyrene as a base plastic material and EPS as a specific form of it. Polystyrene is versatile and can come in the form of CD cases or cutlery. I can also take the form of foam. As you know, EPS is made by expanding polystyrene beads. So, while EPS is made from polystyrene, it isn’t the same as solid polystyrene.

Can I put polystyrene in the recycling bin?

Most local councils do not recycle polystyrene as it is difficult to sort and can clog up and damage machinery. It is best that end users check with their local council to determine whether or not it is something they do.

That said, our polystyrene boxes are 100% recyclable and can be recycled at specialist facilities. There are 16 EPS recycling facilities across the UK, which accept it as commercial and consumer waste.
