Plastic and wooden pallets

As the largest packaging distributor in the UK, we supply an array of varied pallets made from different materials, including wood and plastic. As such, UK pallet prices can differ considerably depending on whether you opt for press wood, corrugation, steel or plastic. Each style is specially designed for different requirements to ensure that we offer a solution suited to most pallet uses.

Kite’s wholesale discounts that automatically apply when buying in bulk ensure that you are getting a highly competitive price against the average market cost. Furthermore, many of the pallets displayed are reusable which lowers the long-term cost even more. Our heavy duty plastic pallets are an example of this and are specifically designed for frequent reuse.

Nestable plastic pallets

Our nestable plastic pallets are a durable, lightweight and cheap alternative to wooden pallets and despite being much lower in cost, they provide a long-lasting solution for palletising your goods. Their impressive dynamic capacity offers the best of both worlds with no compromise on functionality or cost-effectivity whilst protecting your goods. Thanks to being lightweight, they are a great choice for freight, keeping your shipping costs to a minimum. Nestable and stackable in nature, these pallets save space when in storage and transit with up to 2,880 units fitting into a single truck when nested. These pallets contain 100% recycled content and are recyclable upon disposable, feeding into a circular economy.

Rackable plastic pallets

For those seeking a more robust option, our rackable plastic pallet is durable enough to support versatile uses and can palletise an array of goods. It offers a great choice for global exports thanks to its high loading capacity with the durability of its re-granulated HDPE material effectively absorbing impact, ensuring your goods are well protected along their journey. Thanks to this and the pallet’s rounded edges, the risk of damage during handling is reduced, preserving them longer-lasting use as well as reducing your spend on pallet replacements. Recessed protective windows for printing and labelling as well as four corners to easily affix packaging films, our rackable plastic pallets make palletising your goods a hassle-free job.

Containing 100% recycled content, these pallets can be recycled for their materials, aiding responsible disposal and limiting the creation of new plastics.

We work closely with UK and European manufacturers of plastic pallets to ensure our offering aligns with the latest industry standards and innovations, guaranteeing quality and reliability for our valued customers.

Heat treated wooden pallets

Sourced from sustainably managed resources, our wooden pallets are made from strong timber, providing the integral strength required for reuse, and ensure the conservation of your financial resources as well as the planet’s natural ones. They are heat treated for strict compliance with ISPM15 shipping standards (the heat treated certificate can be found here), making them perfect for global shipping. Possessing a four-way forklift or pallet truck entry, these pallets make easy work of transporting goods from one place to another as well as being easy to load and unload.

Presswood pallets

Made by pressing saw dust and processed, recycled wood chips into shape under high pressure and temperatures, presswood pallets are ISPM15 compliant thanks to their manufacturing process and require no further treatment to be exported worldwide. They are lightweight, cheaper to transport and easier to handle with the quality of being nestable helping to conserve space when stored and in transit. They have rounded edges for easy application of shrink and pallet wrap and are free of nails and screws, making them safe for manual handling.

Our presswood pallets are made from 100% PEFC certified wood, ensuring sustainable forest management, with no traces of plastic at all. Our presswood pallets are fully recyclable.

What are pallets used for?

While wooden and plastic pallets have many applications across various industries, they are primarily used for the efficient handling, storage and transportation of large quantities of goods. By providing a stable platform for securing units, pallets streamline the movement of goods. When it comes to imports and exports, pallets allow for the simplified passage of goods through customs, reducing handling costs significantly. Meanwhile, when used for storage and warehousing, they can facilitate the efficient use of vertical space, helping to maximise on storage capacity by enabling stacking or use in conjunction with warehouse racking.

Are plastic pallets cheaper than wooden pallets?

Although the initial cost of purchasing wooden pallets is far cheaper than plastic varieties due to the cost of raw materials, it is important to consider the long term implications of each to determine overall cost-effectivity. Plastic pallets are less prone to damage caused by moisture, pests and rough handling, requiring fewer replacements which offsets their initial high cost. Wooden pallets, on the other hand, have a lower upfront cost but are more susceptible to wear and tear and thus have a shorter life span. Repairs and replacements would be required frequently, racking up maintenance costs massively when compared to plastic pallets.

It is also important to note that plastic pallets are lighter than wooden ones and would therefore reduce the overall cost of shipments so it is vital to consider what is best for your business and supply chain when choosing.

How long do plastic pallets last?

This will vary widely due to a range of factors, including the quality of plastic used, application, design, frequency of use and handling conditions to name a few. Plastic pallets of a high quality can last anywhere between several years to over a decade. As they also experience wear and tear, the lifespan of plastic pallets is subject to regular maintenance and careful handling.
