How to Package an Easter Wreath

By Jake Kirk • Monday 27th March 2023

Easter makes people think immediately of chocolate, but if you’re in the business of making wreaths, you know it’s also your time to shine.

With the popular holiday just around the corner, beautifully crafted wreaths are popping up on front doors all over the country. In order for them to reach those front doors, however, they must be packaged securely to survive their shipping journey and maintain their pristine condition upon arrival.

Since 59% of UK adults believe that Easter packaging is excessive, picking supplies that are sustainable and reflect the values of the growingly eco-conscious consumer of today is crucial for building a brand reputation intwined with social responsibility. (And because it’s good for the planet, of course.)

Cost-effective, eco-friendly shipping boxes

The standard size of a wreath sits between 24-26 inches with a depth of 4 inches. While this may vary from product to product, it is important to choose a box which comfortably fits your wreath, leaving plenty of room for void fill should you need to add extra protection to your package.

Boxes that are too big will increase your shipping costs so it’s best to steer clear of these.

Our sturdy, single wall boxes are perfect for the job with a strong layer of corrugation to protect your items whilst in transit. Some sizes in this range come multiscored, giving you the freedom to adjust your container’s depth to better fit your product’s dimensions.

If this is not the case, not to worry, you can also add scoring at home. All you need is a Kite knife and you’re good to go. This hardwearing, multipurpose tool makes safe and easy work of cutting materials and will glide through cardboard like butter, making your job a whole lot quicker.

Using a ruler, mark the desired height along each side and corner of the box. Pressing down lightly on the cardboard with your knife so it leaves an indent, score along the marked height lines on each side. To adjust the corners, cut along the inside corner edge of the box down to your marked line. Fold inwards along the new scores and voila, you have a smaller box which better fits the dimensions of your wreath, is lighter and costs less to ship.

Secure your wreath into place

To prevent any internal movement during transit, you may wish to secure your wreath into place using a corrugated sheet and cable ties. A single wall sheet is perfect for the job, providing the advantage of an extra layer of protection. These come in various sizes but can also be cut down using a Kite knife for a snug fit within your box.

Place your wreath on the sheet and make four holes in appropriate areas, allowing you to cable tie it onto the sheet. Once done, this should be placed inside your shipping box. Now your wreath is secured into place and will not move around in its container during transit.

Add void fill for extra protection

If your wreath is the kind adorned with cute eggs or any kind of 3D decorative parts, you will want to add void fill for shock absorption. This will go a long way in terms of protecting your items, ensuring they reach your customers undamaged and maintaining a good reputation for you.

Shredded paper is great for livening up packages, providing an opportunity to consolidate branding by using corresponding colours. Or, you have the option of wood wool which has a more rustic appeal if your aesthetic is rustic.

Don’t require void fill? Add a couple of sheets of tissue paper, ideally in colours that match your branding or wreath, to bring the internal aspects of your package together. Our tissue papers are perfect for gift-wrapping, adding a professional finish to goods whilst being 100% recyclable and biodegradable. They are also acid and chlorine-free so rest assured these papers will not harm your delicate products.

And while you’re adding void fill and wrapping, don’t forget to include your packing slip.

Seal packages with sustainable tape

All that’s left now is sealing your package ready for shipping! Choose from our selection of self-adhesive paper kraft tapes which require no water activation for use. These are resistant to moisture and humidity as well as being 100% recyclable, providing a secure seal for your package.

And there you have it, a well packaged wreath that will reach customers in one piece whilst tying your brand to environmental responsibility.

We hope our tips have helped and wish you all a Happy Easter!
