Re-use

Although re-using packaging offers significant economic benefits and is often the reason most companies switch, there are an array of environmental benefits that companies should not ignore. Re-using is one way to prevent waste from entering the waste stream. With landfill filling up at a rapid rate and thousands of tonnes of transit packaging being used every year in the UK, re-useable packaging made of metal, plastic or wood can often be used time and time again.

Not only does it prevent items from being sent to landfill, it minimises the amount of raw material used, the energy used to produce and also to move the new packaging materials around. Moving raw materials to the plant and the production of new products uses up fuel as does the delivery to the local store once produced. So reducing the amount of single-use packaging used can greatly benefit the environment.
