Temperature indicators for pharmaceuticals and food

Temperature indicators are small self-adhesive labels that are placed inside chilled packaging with contents that need to be kept at a certain temperature. They monitor the temperature throughout a specified time period (see individual indicator) and indicate when a maximum threshold has been breached and if so for how long the contents have been above the specified threshold temperature. Our range of temperature indicators are commonly used with food, pharmaceuticals and medical products to show the accumulated time-temperature history of a product.

Indicators are completely self-activated and must be activated when the surrounding temperature is above the stated threshold temperature so that the blue dyed liquid can be released. Fully squeeze the button and make sure the first window turns blue and the word ‘ON’ appears.

Please note that if the contents being monitored are already at their STOP temperature then the indicator can be placed inside, however, if not then you need to get the indicator to its STOP temperature for a minimum of 1 hour, so that the liquid freezes making the indicator fully conditioned and ready to use. For STOP temperature see details for each individual indicator.

Food temperature indicators

Small, self-adhesive temperature sensitive labels are ideal for food products, simply attach the indicator to a product or inside the package and it will begin to monitor and indicate when a maximum internal threshold has been breached. Therefore, allowing the user to know if the product is no longer fit for purpose.

5 °C 4 hours

Once the inside contents reach 5 °C this indicator will log for a 4 hour period how long the contents have been above the threshold temperature for, after this time period the temperature will not be logged. The indicator will stop logging if the temperature falls back below 3 °C and restart if it reaches 5 °C again (STOP temperature).

8 °C ½, 2 & 4 hours

Once the inside contents reach 8 °C the temperature indicator will log the length of time contents have been above the threshold temperature for a period of ½ hour, 2 hours and 4 hours, after this period the temperature will not be logged. The indicator will stop logging if the temperature falls back below 6 °C and restart if it reaches 8 °C again (STOP temperature).

Pharmaceutical temperature indicators

Our pharmaceutical temperature indicators are small, self-adhesive labels that can be attached to products or packages, to monitor and indicate when a maximum threshold has been breached, meaning that the goods inside may no longer be fit for purpose. We have two variations available, depending on the time period you require.

8 °C 8 hour

Once the contents inside reach 8 °C it will start to log the length of time the environment is above 8 °C and will log for a time period of up to 8 hours, anything after this time period will not be logged. The indicator will stop advancing when the temperature is below 6 °C.

8 °C 48 hour

Once the contents inside reach 8 °C it will log the length of time the temperature is above 8 °C for up to 48 hours, anything after this time period will not be logged. The indicator will stop logging if the temperature falls back below 6 °C and restart if it reaches 8 °C again (STOP temperature).

How to use our temperature indicators

These indicators are designed to indicate if a sealed environment goes past a certain temperature and for how long. The dark blue food indicators are for when goods are to be kept below 5 degrees, it logs if it goes over this temperature from 2-4 hours. The light blue indicators are for when goods are to be kept below 8 degrees, it logs if it goes over this temperature from ½-4 hours. To activate the indicators, press firmly onto the button. This releases the blue chemical that indicates if the environment goes over the desired temperature. The chemical will fill 'on' that confirms the indicator is ready to be used. Please note that the indicator must be over the desired temperatue before use, and then below at least one hour before being packed with chilled goods. Once activated, simply pack goods and stick the indicator inside. Seal and secure the package. The timer will stay fully or partially white if the temperature did not exceed for the full duration. However, in this example, the temperature went over for the full 4 hours, resulting in the timer filling blue. Our pharmaceutical indicators are both to be used when goods are to be kept below 8 degrees. One indicates from 1-48 hours, the other indicates from ½-8 hours. Like before, activate by pressing firmly on the button. The chemical will fill 'on' comfirming the indicator is ready to be used. Note that the indicator must be over the desired temperatue before use, and then below at least one hour before being packed with pharmaceuticals. Similarly, the timer will stay fully or partially white if the temperature did not exceed for the full duration. However, in this example, the temperature went over for the full 8 hours, resulting in the timer filling blue.
